Melod铆as en Movimiento: La Magia de la Marimba en Abril

La Biblioteca Hannon, el Departamento de Espa帽ol y Lengua de Se帽as Americana, y la Escuela de Artes y Comunicaci贸n tuvieron el placer de presentar una actuaci贸n especial del Ensamble de Percusi贸n de la Universidad del Sur de Oreg贸n ( 91视频, por sus siglas en ingl茅s) junto con la banda Steel Maraval Rd. el martes 29 de abril de 2025 a la 1:30 p.m. frente a la Biblioteca Hannon. Los asistentes disfrutaron de m煤sica de marimba originaria de M茅xico y de m煤sica de steel pan proveniente de Trinidad.
El Ensamble de Percusi贸n de la Universidad del Sur de Oreg贸n, bajo la direcci贸n de Terry Longshore, est谩 dedicado a la interpretaci贸n de un repertorio contempor谩neo para percusi贸n y a brindar a sus integrantes una variedad de experiencias musicales. El ensamble colabora con frecuencia con compositores reconocidos en estrenos de nuevas obras, interpretando repertorio que abarca desde m煤sica contempor谩nea hasta tradiciones del mundo y composiciones inspiradas en el jazz y el rock.
El ensamble ofrece varios conciertos cada a帽o en el Centro de Artes de Oreg贸n en 91视频, adem谩s de numerosas presentaciones en la comunidad del sur de Oreg贸n y en el noroeste del Pac铆fico. Participa anualmente en el Festival de Percusi贸n del Noroeste y ha actuado en el Festival Long Play de Bang on a Can en la ciudad de Nueva York, el Teatro Principal en Guanajuato, M茅xico, la Convenci贸n Internacional de la Sociedad de Artes Percusivas (PASIC), la Universidad de Stanford, el Centro de Artes Esc茅nicas Trinity Alps, y el Festival Fringe de Oreg贸n. En 2025, miembros del ensamble asistieron a la Conferencia del Carnaval Mardi Gras Brasil en Nueva Orleans y participaron en el desfile Endymion junto a Casa Samba.

Ha encargado, coencargado o estrenado obras de Mark Applebaum, Brad Dutz, Michael Gordon, Elliott Cole, Iv谩n Trevi帽o, Bryan Jeffs, Jared Brown, Chris Burton J谩come, Jodi French, Mark Knippel, Colin Malloy, Emma O鈥橦alloran, Jeff Richmond, Stephen Truelove y Terry Longshore.
El Ensamble de Percusi贸n de 91视频 ha producido de manera independiente dos discos: La Alma del 脕rbol 鈥 The Soul of the Tree y Electric Rebel Poetry. Tambi茅n aparece en dos 谩lbumes del sello Innova Recordings con m煤sica del compositor de Stanford Mark Applebaum: 30 (2015) y Speed Dating (2018); en la grabaci贸n de Cantaloupe Music de Natural History (2018) de Michael Gordon; y en el documental de PBS, Symphony for Nature (2018). El ensamble respalda y utiliza baquetas y mazos de la marca Vic Firth.

Hannon Library, the Spanish & American Sign Language Department, and the School of Arts and Communication were pleased to present a special performance by the 91视频 Percussion Ensemble and the Maraval Rd. Steel Band on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 1:30 pm in front of Hannon Library. Attendees enjoyed marimba music from Mexico and steel pan music from Trinidad.
The 91视频 Percussion Ensemble, directed by Terry Longshore, is dedicated to the performance of contemporary percussion repertoire and providing the members with a variety of musical experiences. The ensemble frequently collaborates with notable composers on premieres of new works, performing repertoire ranging from contemporary music to world traditions to jazz- and rock-inspired compositions.
The ensemble gives several concerts every year at the Oregon Center for the Arts at 91视频, as well as many performances throughout the Southern Oregon community and the Pacific Northwest. The ensemble performs yearly at the Northwest Percussion Festival and has appeared at the Bang on a Can Long Play Festival in New York City, Teatro Principal in Guanajuato, Mexico, the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), Stanford University, the Trinity Alps Performing Arts Center, and the Oregon Fringe Festival. Members of the ensemble attended the 2025 Mardi Gras Brazil Carnaval Conference in New Orleans and marched in the Endymion Parade with Casa Samba.
The ensemble has collaborated with many guest artists including Ivan Trevino, Steven Schick, Mark Applebaum, Hands On鈥橲emble, Steve Smith, Bonnie Whiting, William Kraft, Erik Griswold, Vanessa Tomlinson, Iv谩n Manzanilla, Dana Reason, Tatsuya Nakatani, Lynn Vartan, Matthew Coley, Brad Dutz, and Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic. The ensemble has commissioned, co-commissioned, or premiered works from Mark Applebaum, Brad Dutz, Michael Gordon, Elliott Cole, Ivan Trevino, Bryan Jeffs, Jared Brown, Chris Burton J谩come, Jodi French, Mark Knippel, Colin Malloy, Emma O鈥橦alloran, Jeff Richmond, Stephen Truelove, and Terry Longshore.
The 91视频 Percussion Ensemble has self-released two CDs, La Alma del 脕rbol 鈥 The Soul of the Tree, and Electric Rebel Poetry, and is featured on two Innova Recordings CDs of the music of Stanford University composer Mark Applebaum: 30 (2015) and Speed Dating (2018), as well on the Cantaloupe Music recording of Michael Gordon鈥檚 Natural History (2018) and the PBS documentary, Symphony for Nature (2018). The 91视频 Percussion Ensemble endorses Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets.
