Caf茅 Mestiza es un tesoro para los amantes del caf茅. Basada en los rasgos culturales hispanos, Cafe Mestiza fue creada con la idea de promover el biling眉ismo y la inclusi贸n en el mundo del caf茅. El nombre Mestiza, basado en su definici贸n (una mujer que tiene rasgos ancestrales europeos y latines) fue elegida por el simbolismo que lleva para las dos due帽as.
Caf茅 Mestiza se estableci贸 con la funci贸n de ser una cafeter铆a biling眉e e inclusiva donde los clientes est谩n invitados a tener un espacio para convivir y disfrutar. Los clientes pueden saborear una variedad de bebidas de cultura mexicana, incluyendo una selecci贸n de panes dulces para el desayuno. Caf茅 Mestiza tambi茅n ofrece un lugar beneficioso para estudiantes que buscan un sitio para estudiar. El internet gratis, las mesas de trabajo, y la m煤sica ajustable para las necesidades del estudiante solo son algunas de las razones por las cuales puede ser beneficioso para los estudiantes. Encima de todo, el negocio fue creado para servir a la comunidad: Un sitio donde se puede disfrutar, sentirse c贸modo, expandir el sentimiento de comunidad, un lugar diverso y abierto para familias y gente de cualquier demograf铆a.

The Mestiza Caf茅 is a treasure for coffee lovers. Based on Hispanic cultural traits, Jimena and Zuri created Cafe Mestiza to promote bilingualism and inclusion in the coffee world. The name Mestiza, based on its definition of a woman with European and Latin ancestry, was chosen for the symbolism it carries for the two owners.
Mestiza Caf茅 was created to be a unique coffee shop where customers are invited to have a space to socialize and enjoy. Customers can experience a variety of Mexican beverages, including an array of 鈥淧an Dulces,鈥 a sweet Mexican pastry, if they prefer food for breakfast. Mestiza Caf茅 also offers a beneficial place for students looking for a place to study. Free internet, work tables, and adjustable music are just some of the reasons it is an excellent hangout for students. Above all, the business was created to serve the community鈥搘here you can enjoy yourself, feel comfortable, and expand your sense of community. Caf茅 Mestiza promises a diverse and open place for families and people of any demographic.
Sobre lo que le inspir贸 a iniciar el negocio, Zuri contest贸 que al trabajar en una cafeter铆a desde ni帽a, not贸 que la demograf铆a de los clientes era casi exclusivamente de personas blancas y de edad. Teniendo tanta experiencia en el mundo del caf茅, le creci贸 el inter茅s de expandir sus talentos a la poblaci贸n hispanohablante de Medford. Jimena contest贸 que hac铆a falta tener un espacio multicultural.
Debido a que ten铆a padres latinos, Jimena sab铆a lo dif铆cil que era hacer peticiones simples como ordenar el caf茅; Tener un lugar m谩s inclusivo donde los trabajadores eran biling眉es facilitaba la barrera del idioma y creaba un negocio que se sintiese como casa. Esta idea fue la fundaci贸n de crear una cafeter铆a biling眉e y de influencia mexicana, donde los sabores t铆picos mexicanos son conservados, y no perdidos como en muchas de las cafeter铆as de corporaciones.
El 茅xito del negocio no ha llegado sin sus dificultades. Zuri describi贸 que al empezar la cafeter铆a, las due帽as enfrentaron varios retos. Al empezar en octubre del 2023, fue complicado conseguir el dinero para las renovaciones requeridas para la cafeter铆a. Dado que las due帽as ya ten铆an trabajos primarios, tuvieron que equilibrar sus trabajos con el esfuerzo de conseguir pr茅stamos para las renovaciones necesarias. Afortunadamente, con la ayuda de familia, amigos y dinero propio lograron salir adelante. Adicionalmente, con la ayuda del patr贸n antiguo se adquiri贸 una m谩quina de caf茅. Poco a poco, un sue帽o se iba convirtiendo en realidad.
When asked about her inspiration to start the business, Zuri explained that she had worked in a caf茅 since childhood and experienced a customer demographic that was almost exclusively older and white. She grew interested in expanding her talents and experience to the Spanish-speaking population of Medford. Jimena replied that it was necessary to have a multicultural space.
Because she had Spanish speaking parents, Jimena knew how difficult it was to do simple things like ordering coffee; having a more inclusive place where the workers were bilingual eased the language barrier and created a business that felt like home. This idea was the foundation for creating a bilingual caf茅 with Mexican influence, where typical Mexican flavors are preserved and not lost, as is seen in many corporate coffee shops.
The success of the business has not come without its difficulties. Zuri described that when starting the caf茅, the owners faced several challenges. Starting in October 2023, getting the money for the renovations required for a caf茅 was difficult. Because the owners already had primary jobs, they had to balance their work life with the added stress of obtaining financing for the necessary renovations. Fortunately, with the help of family, friends, and money from their own pockets, they managed to get through those initial obstacles. Additionally, with the help of the previous owner, a coffee machine was obtained. Little by little, a dream was becoming a reality.
A pesar de los retos que se enfrentaron, Zuri y Jimena ya tienen metas impuestas para el futuro cercano. Conseguir una m谩quina de caf茅 descafeinado e incluir desayunos t铆picos de cultura mexicana solo son unas de las metas que les gustar铆a realizar. Tambi茅n est谩n buscando inversi贸n para abrir un lugar secundario, posiblemente en manera automovil铆stica, para hacerlo m谩s conveniente para los clientes. Jimena agradece al programa de Espa帽ol de 91视频 por proporcionarle un lugar donde practicar y mejorar su espa帽ol a nivel profesional y darle otros beneficios culturales que afectan muchos de los aspectos de su vida. Tambi茅n incluy贸 que el programa le facilit贸 conocer una comunidad de estudiantes latinoamericanos. Finalmente quer铆a darle las gracias por el apoyo a los profesores del programa. 鈥淓specialmente la maestra Bonnie [Holmes] ha sido un gran apoyo en mi carrera,鈥 not贸 Jimena. Caf茅 Mestiza se ubica en 15 W McAndrews Rd, Medford.
Despite their challenges, Zuri and Jimena are on their way to a successful future. Adding typical Mexican breakfasts are just some of the short term goals they would like to achieve. They are also seeking investments to open a secondary location, possibly as a drive-thru, to make it more convenient for customers. Jimena thanks the 91视频 Spanish program for providing her a place to practice and improve her Spanish professionally and benefit culturally from many aspects of her life. She also included that the program facilitated her meeting a community of Latin American students. Finally, she is thankful for all of the program’s professors, “Especially Dr. Bonnie [Holmes], who has been a great support in my career,” noted Jimena.
